Boarding Schools — Making a Level Retakes a Whole New Experience

Author: Liam Brennan

This could be for a number of reasons. It might be that personal circumstances have prevented you from performing to the best of your ability, or maybe you chose the wrong subjects to study, or perhaps you just didn't try hard enough. No matter what the reason it is certainly no disaster, just a temporary glitch on your road to higher education and/or a successful working life. Retaking A levels can actually show prospective employers and universities just how committed you are to your work and education, giving you an advantage over other applicants when applying for jobs.

Some organisations that offer A level retake courses also provide the excellent alternative of boarding school study arrangements. These boarding schools allow students the opportunity to retake their A levels away from home, possibly in a city where a student is planning to attend university at a later date. Students who choose this option can also stay in accommodation facilities similar to that of university halls. This acts as great experience for students as it prepares them for what campus life will be like if they choose to go on to higher education. Plus, students will be sharing this same experience alongside others in the same educational position as they are, so there will be no reason to feel alone in this venture. These university styled colleges are also particularly useful for students who find themselves without a place at university once the clearing process has been completed in September.

Boarding colleges are located across the UK and boast excellent social opportunities as well as providing a first class education. Boarding campuses offer a diverse number of outstanding facilities for students' enjoyment, such as gyms, cinemas, art studios, sports grounds, and gardens. These facilities are usually located directly on campus too to ensure easy and access and comfort.

One reason why a student might have failed their A levels is that one or more of their subjects simply was not the right choice for their individual study. However, the beautiful thing about attending a boarding college is that you can choose any subject you like for your retakes without having to worry about doing the same ones for a second time. Statistics show that students who change subjects increase their passing grades significantly. Another great benefit of applying to a boarding college is that you can contact the college with your application directly without having to go through the long-winded process of a UCAS application.

Meal plans and dietary situations met? Name recognition? Student/teacher ratio? Average class size, semester or trimester? Percentage of professors who teach and percentage of teaching assistants? 2 or 4-year college or university? Co-ed dorms? Freshman cars permitted? Handicap accessibility?
