Using Icing Bags to Decorate Cool-Looking Cakes

Icing bags come in pretty handy when you have to decorate a cake. In fact, it can be quite difficult to decorate a cake without these items. Some people say that it is just as easy to use a plastic bag with a hole cut in the corner, but you aren't going to be able to get the fine details that you can get when you use a tool that is actually made for the purpose.

Get a Whole Kit

If you are planning on decorating a lot of cakes, or even if you only do a couple a year, it is a good idea to have all of the right tools so your cakes always look awesome. You can get kits that have a few of the bags included, as well as all of the tips you will need to do just about any design you can imagine. You simply screw the tips onto one end of the pouch, spoon in some frosting, then start squeezing the icing out and making your designs. You can get tips to make the following types of designs:

• Flowers • Ribbons • Lettering • Fur (if you are doing animal-themed cakes) • More

Cakes, Cupcakes, Cookies and More

If you love to bake and decorate the things you bake, there are all kinds of fun things you can do with icing. A lot of people only think about decorating cakes, but you have many more options, including cupcakes, cookies and other sweet treats. Even though you only have a small space, such as with a cupcake or a small cookie, as long as you have the right bags and decorating tips, you can incorporate just about any design that you can imagine.

Parties for Kids

Planning kids' parties is a lot of work. You not only have to plan all of the activities, you also have to make all of the food the kids are going to eat. One way that you can save yourself a lot of time, and plan a fun activity for the kids at the same time, is to let them decorate the cake. Better yet, instead of an actual birthday cake, why not use cupcakes instead? You can give each kid a cupcake or two that they can decorate themselves. Make sure that there are plenty of supplies available for them, including:

• Bags • Decorating tips • Food coloring or different colors of frosting • Toothpicks (for making fun designs) • Plenty of washcloths to keep them clean while they are working • Sprinkles, chocolate chips and other fun, edible decorations

There are all kinds of reasons why you may need to decorate a cake, cupcake or cookie, and you will find that your job is a lot easier when you have the right tools. Make sure that you have plenty of icing bags handy, and all of the tips you need to help you make any shape or design that pops into your head.
