What Are The Irs Payment (Form 2290) Options And What Is Stamped Schedule 1?
Author: Jenniferjames
When E-Filing with ExpressTruckTax you have 3 IRS Payment options for paying Form 2290 HVUT or any tax amounts due. The options are Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW), Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) or by mailing in a check or money order.
If you choose to pay by Electronic Funds Withdrawal, you can use either a checking or savings account. You will need to enter the US Bank Account Number and Routing Number in order for the IRS to Process the payment. This information is typically listed on a check.
EFTPS is short for Electronic Federal Tax payment System. It is a government program that allows you to schedule Federal Tax Payments electronically. If you select to pay by this option, you are acknowledging that it is your responsibility to send the tax payment to the IRS through the EFTPS.gov website.
Each payment method is processed directly by the US Treasury. Regardless of the payment method you choose you can still receive your Stamped Schedule 1 via e-mail within minutes of your return being accepted by the IRS because you have either paid or made an electronic promise to pay the taxes due. You will choose your payment option during the process of E-Filing your Form 2290.
Please note that credit cards cannot be used to make tax payments because the IRS does not accept this payment method for 2290s at this time.
Form 2290 stamped Schedule 1:
Once you have submitted your Form 2290, the IRS will stamp your Schedule 1 as proof of payment. When E-Filing, the IRS will apply a digital watermark to your Form 2290 Schedule 1. This digitally "stamped" Schedule 1 serves as your HVUT proof of payment.
This document is required when tagging or registering vehicles with a taxable gross weight over 55,000 pounds to show as proof of filing the 2290. Without a Stamped Schedule 1, drivers are unable to get tags or renewal for their vehicles and will not be able to get on the road.
