Abraham Lincoln Is Still Alive

Is Your Life Ready For Groundhog Day?
In the hit comedic movie Groundhog Day, Bill Murray's character, Phil Conners, is caught up in a time warp, doomed to live the same day over and over until he gets it right. Hilarious as the ensuing mayhem may be on the big screen, it is a poignant and not too thinly veiled metaphor for how most of us live our own lives - mindlessly occupied with our own issues and concerns, stumbling through life (often over the toes of others) with little if any conscious direction or critical thought.
Helping Others Develop Their Potential
Most of us find ourselves in a position to help others achieve more of their potential than we realize. Sure, as leaders, supervisors, and parents we can see ourselves in that position; but the fact is that all of us are uniquely qualified to help at least one other person in our lives reach their potential.
Unleash It!
On airplanes, in restaurants, in the newspaper and on television, I often hear people saying their businesses are not growing to their satisfaction or that they are not reaching their objectives. The explanations that follow consist of reasons like:
? It's the economy? Our customers don't get it? I don't have the right people on the team
I could go on, and so could you.

Ten Steps To Effective Leadership
Many people end up in a supervisory position or SOHO ownership almost by default. In today's workplace, if someone stays on their job long enough, they will probably be promoted as others, more senior to them or higher up the chain of responsibility, leave for other opportunities.
Professional Organizations: Join or Fold?
All of us join professional organizations for a reason--a friend belongs, we need to for credibility, etc. Many times we let years slide by and we don't stop and review those reasons.

One of the greatest challenges, faced by someone, who is either, elected, selected, or ascends, to a position of leadership, is whether, he will be satisfied, merely, being a space - holder, and maintaining the status quo, adhering to the same - old, same - old, ways, or, expand his personal comfort zone, and truly, become a leader! Great leaders must be free - THINKERS, who, as Robert Frost, wrote, and President John Kennedy, made famous, Will you see things as they are, and ask why? Far too often, organizations permit individuals, to, either be elected, selected, ascend to important positions of leadership, even though, the individual, is, either, not ready, willing, able, or, self - confident, enough, to make timely, well - considered decisions! A real leader must avoid, leading, by, being populist, and lead, by example, stating his reasoning and rationale, even if it is not the most popular approach, Great leaders consider what's best, rather than expedient, popular, or the path, of least resistance. Leaders: Focus On Doing The RIGHT Thing! |
Many individuals, serving in, or considering, a position of leadership, appear tempted to prioritize being popular, and avoiding any blame, and/ or, personal responsibility, rather than, focusing, primarily, on the need, to do, the RIGHT thing! This is, perhaps, one of the main reasons, so many organizations, today, seem to be suffering, from a dearth of genuine leaders, and, thus, are not, either growing, relevant, and/ or, sustainable! Nearly every organization, holds at least, one EVENT, on a somewhat, regular basis, and many, hold several events. As a professional event planner, who has planned, all or parts of events, for over four decades, I have come to realize, far too often, these events are not, nearly as successful, as they should, and could be, and, a genuine leader, must assume a high degree of personal responsibility, to make these, better, etc. One of the major considerations, must be, identifying, the objectives, and reasons, for holding a specific event, and, then, proceeding, to plan, thoroughly, and effectively.

You Can't Lead, If You Don't Start, With A PLAN! |
Quality leadership, is created, by a combination of treating it, as an art, as well as a science! Unfortunately, today, many organizations, appear to be suffering, from an apparent, dearth of genuine leaders, and, while this is probably due, to a number of factors, one of the key ones, is inadequate dedication to professionally designed, leadership training programs. There is no such thing, as a born - leader, but, rather, an individual, must maintain, both, a true, positive, can- do, attitude, with a well - developed, relevant, aptitude and skill - set.

Don't expect to become a quality, effective leader, unless, you are ready, willing, and able, to plan, to lead! One of the reasons, many organizations are witnessing a near - dearth of meaningful leadership, is, these groups, have not created, implemented, and emphasized, a professionally designed, well - considered, relevant, leadership PLANNING program, and system! After over four decades, of identifying, qualifying, training, developing, and consulting to thousands of actual, and potential leaders, I have come to believe, the key to success, is true planning, based on the specific needs, priorities, perceptions, and heritage/ history, of the specific organization.

Yesterday, we witnessed, our President, Senate Minority Leader, and incoming House Majority Leader, behave, in a way, which appeared to be, far less than focused, and lacking in the necessary maturity, we need and deserve, when, they battled. about funding our government, but the level of discourse, deteriorated to a battle over the President's, often - articulated, Southern Wall.

HAPPIER Leadership |
Why should anyone pursue a position of leadership, unless/ until, he really wants to lead, and doing so, will make him, a HAPPIER person? How can anyone be a meaningful leader, if leading fails to give him joy, happiness, and a sense of personal fulfillment, well - being, and accomplishment/ achievement? Doesn't it make sense, one will perform better, and have a greater degree of endurance, etc, if being a leader, is something he wants to do, for the right reasons?

What Is FREE - Thinking Leadership? |
How might anyone be, a truly, relevant, significant leader, until/ unless, he considers all viable options and alternatives, rather than becoming confined - to, and restricted by the limitations of his personal comfort zone? True leaders must have the strength - of - character, to proceed, consistently, with a willingness to be, FREE - thinkers, and pursuing the best options, rather than accepting, the same - old, same - old, thinking, pursuits, and plans! Why Are There So Few QUALITY Leaders? |
Why are there, so very few, QUALITY leaders? Doesn't this, largely, explain, the dearth of genuine leadership, we seem to be witnessing, where a large percentage of those, who are either, elected, selected, or ascend to specific positions of leadership, never become true leader? Wouldn't most organizations benefit, and become far stronger, relevant, and sustainable, if/ when, those, leading, focused far more on providing the finest leadership, and representing the needs, goals, and priorities, etc, of their constituents, rather than any personal/ political agenda, and/ or self - interest?

You're Not A Leader, If You Fail To Have A PLAN! |
After more tha four decades of involvement, in nearly every aspect of leading, and planning, from identifying, and qualifying potential leaders, to training, developing and consulting to over a thousand, actual, as well as potential ones, and serving in many leadership positions, for a variety of organizations and groups, both in the not - for - profit, as well as corporate worlds, I have learned, and believe strongly, quality leadership is never accidental, and only those, ready, willing, and able, to create a meaningful, relevant, sustainable, strategic and action PLAN, deserve to be considered, as a real leader! With that in mind,...

Leadership Negotiations: The Win - Win Approach |
In the last four decades of my personal involvement in nearly every aspect of leadership planning, trading, and negotiating, from identifying and qualifying, to developing, training, and consulting, to personally, serving, as a leader, in a variety of different positions, and various organizations (of different size, and missions), I have come to recognize, perhaps, the single, most neglected, skill, is effective negotiating. Perhaps, because, professional negotiations, requires a combination of one's attitude, developed relevant aptitude/ skill - set, and learning from one's experiences (transforming these, to expertise and relevant judgment), we continue to witness, organizations, approach and handle negotiations, in...

Do You Have The FOCUS Of A Leader? |
One doesn't automatically, become a true leader, simply because he either, is elected, selected, and/ or ascends, to any position of leadership! Rather, one only merits, being considered, a real leader, when he clearly exhibits, and demonstrates, he has the vision, and FOCUS, required, needed, and necessary. This is, perhaps, one of the principal reasons, we appear to be witnessing, such a dearth of genuine leadership, in many groups, and/ or organizations.
